Photographing People/Models

Postby ImplodingSanti » Wed Jun 23, 2010 10:40 pm

Hi,

Does anybody know any decent places in the UK where you can hire or practice taking photo's of models/people?

Are there studios where you can just go along and shoot people (photographically speaking of course)? Just a place for beginners to try stuff out.

I've seen a couple of websites where you can apparently hire people for modelling; anybody used one of those sites before or at least know if they are worth trying?

Just after good methods to practice photographing people. Unfortunately my friends only have one pose in their "repetoir" - drunk - so doesn't really make for good photography...

Cheers,
J

Hi J. Welcome to our forum. You could maybe try asking the DSLR Team to help you out by maybe running a Photo weekend to improve your skills, or failing that you could try the sections at the back of the mag

Thanks Tony - for the welcome and the advice (of course the magazine! I should've known)

Forgive my ignorance, but who do you mean by DSLR team?

Cheers,

Sorry J, I should have explained myself properly. Sometimes I think something in my head and automatically write thinking that everybody else knows whst I'm talking about without explaining myself (doh!!!!). Although I subscribe to this magazine, this is not the only one I read (if your like me you try to get an overload of information into your brain). As far as I know this mag does not do this AT THE MINUTE but HOPEFULLY IN THE NEAR FUTURE!!!!!!!!!! (they might have did it when the mag first started but I can't remember), sorry there I go again!!!! Let me explain: let's say when a beginner needed help with a certain area of thier photography they either wrote into the mag or emailed them asking for some help. So the magazine sent out one of thier experts to meet the beginner for a days shooting and during this they got all the practical advice they needed to better themselves.......

I hope this makes sense, and IF our FABULOUS MAG DOES THIS, I Apologise in advance....

I think I remember this magazine doing that a while a go but don't recall seeing that in recent issues now you mention it. Looks like they may have replcaed it with a larger beginners section maybe.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any model hire in the back of the magazines (admittedly, I didn't look very thoroughly), but it did lead to finding local studio space to rent for a reasonable price so it's a step in the right direction.

Thanks again Tony!

Try looking on the internet. You might find what you need there, alot of professional models and models starting out would advertise and they might even put thier rates on the site, or at the least a contact number so you could discuss what you want and what she/he are prepared to do.....

I've seen some articles in the magazines about studios that are specifically set up for photographers who don't own all the equipment because they maybe don't do it professionally or are just starting up/beginner. I can't find it though and can't remember what it's called. How helpful! There is also a site that has the word camera and rent in it, or something like that, where you can rent camera equipment from. For models if you don't want to pay for professional ones then you can either get your friends, or put a small add in the paper advertising you want models for a shoot and instead of money give them a photo in return.
