Lens Advice

Lens Advice

Hi All,

Having bought a Nikon D5000 a few months ago I am looking to upgrade the kit lens and debating which approach I should take. I have already decided to get the Nikon 50mm f1.8 lens but want a zoom as well to improve the range of focal length I have available:

1) Buy a lens with range of about 18-200mm to try and cover all situations and avoid having to regularly change lens. For this option I am looking at the Sigma 18-200 with Optical Stabilisation or the Tamron equivalent. The Tamron 18-270 looks ideal but is almost certainly out of budget.

2) Alternatively buy a lens of range about 70-300 to complement my kit lens, which should get a better image quality but less convenience. For this option I have been looking at the Sigma 70-300 with OS.

I am interested in all sorts of photography so do not want to limit myself and am perhaps slightly less fussy about image quality than more experienced photographers. Having said that I don't want to get something I will be dying to replace in a year!

All comments and advice very gratefully received!

Many thanks in advance

Alex
